The socio-economic marginalization of queer and transgender persons and communities is a result of historical, systemic and structural discrimination and violence that they have been subjected to. At Telangana Police, Women Safety Wing we believe that we have an important role in taking the lead, in implementing the progressive provisions of the Apex Courts’ judgments and the law, thereby ensuring the safety and security of all transgender and LGBTQIA+ persons.

According to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Trans and LGBTQIA+ People Protection Cell at the State Level is formed in the Telangana Police under the Women’s Safety Wing.
The cell will work to prevent crimes, monitor cases of transgender and LGBTQIA+ persons related offences, and ensure timely registration, investigation, and prosecution of such offences. Furthermore, it will raise public awareness about transgender and LGBTQIA+ people’s rights and educate all stakeholders on the proper implementation of laws in the state concerning to trans and LGBTQIA+ persons.
A transgender person has been taken to work as a coordinator. The cell will connect with various transgender and LGBTQIA+ communities while also assisting police in identifying the needs of members who have been victims of violence.
According to Swati Lakra, Addl. DGP, Women Safety Wing, this cell is an effort to ensure that trans people are treated with the same dignity as everyone else and can live with respect for their gender identity.
Making an entry into the petition register upon being approached.
The petitioner is sent to module I/C officer, the module I/C officer examines the petition, makes contact with the concerned PS SHO and discusses facts of the petition for speedy disposal.
The details of the petition enter into Phase-I and II proforma and sent to the concerned unit with a memo by offering action taken & report through Phase-III proforma to this office at an early date.
The Module staff does the follow up and collects the action reports from concerned units and submits reports to superior officers.
