To ensure that our public spaces are safe, towards opening the door of a future filled with opportunities for girls, the Women Safety Wing of Telangana Police has joined hands with Save the Children and Lead Life Foundation for a ‘Volunteering Programme’ which will ensure establishment of well-informed ‘Girls Safety Club’ in each college, to create awareness on various safety issues within the colleges as well as in their neighbourhood. ‘Girls Safety Club’ members will be the facilitators who will be the bridges between the youth who are in need of support and the grievance redressal mechanisms (Police, Legal Aid, Public Health, Counselling, and others) available in the city for addressing safety issues related to gender. The Girl Safety Clubs were launched in the month of February 2020 in 5 selective colleges where shortlisted students were made volunteers to report any crime happening against girls students in the respective colleges, recently from 4th January-2021 to 8th January-2021 we organised an Online Train the Trainer 5 days program to 13 colleges with around 325 students and the session focused on safeguarding in an emergency, Prevent abuse, Circle of Safety, Environmental, Physical, Emotional & Social Aspects, introduction to Child Rights and Protection in particular the role of UNCRC, NCW, NCPCR etc, Role of National Commission for Women, Role of Telangana State Commission for Women, Virtual tour of a Police Station (Raidurgam PS, Cyberabad commissionerate), Virtual tour of Police control room (Dial 100), awareness on POCSO Act, operations of SHE Teams, Sakhi and Bharosa centres, awareness on whom to approach in various emergency and crisis situations?
