Pride Place - Transgender (LGBQIA+) Persons Protection Cell

Pride Place is an initiative of the Telangana State Police Women Safety Wing. At Pride Place, we work towards providing safety and security for and preventing crimes against Transgender and LGBQIA+ persons. We aim to closely work with the Transgender, LGBQIA+ communities towards building an inclusive society that is safe for everyone irrespective of their sex, gender, and sexuality.

To ensure the safety and security of transgender people by putting an end to violence against them in society.

About Pride Place

The socio-economic marginalization of queer and transgender persons and communities is a result of historical, systemic and structural discrimination and violence that they have been subjected to. At Telangana State Police, Women Safety Wing we believe that we have an important role in taking the lead, in implementing the progressive provisions of the Apex Courts’ judgments and the law, thereby ensuring the safety and security of all transgender and LGBQIA+ persons.

Objectives of Pride Place

Transgender Protection (LGBQIA+) person Cells should be established at the state and district levels.
To work for crime prevention, monitor cases of transgender-related offences, and to ensure timely registration, investigation, and prosecution of such offences.
To raise public awareness of transgender people's rights and to educate all stakeholders on the proper implementation of transgender laws in the state
By networking and collaborating with other stakeholders, it provides a one-stop solution for trans people by providing police and other services.
To provide free and secure passageways for trans people in public spaces and ensure their freedom of movement. To establish trans-inclusive workplaces in government and the private sector.

According to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Trans and LGBQIA+ People Protection Cell at the State Level is formed in the Telangana Police under the Women’s Safety Wing.

The cell will work to prevent crimes, monitor cases of transgender and LGBQIA+ persons related offences, and ensure timely registration, investigation, and prosecution of such offences. Furthermore, it will raise public awareness about transgender and LGBQIA+ people’s rights and educate all stakeholders on the proper implementation of laws in the state concerning to trans and LGBQIA+ persons.

A transgender person has been taken to work as a coordinator. The cell will connect with various transgender and LGBQIA+ communities while also assisting police in identifying the needs of members who have been victims of violence.

According to Swati Lakra, Addl. DGP, Women Safety Wing, this cell is an effort to ensure that trans people are treated with the same dignity as everyone else and can live with respect for their gender identity.

Pride Place

Pride Place is supervised by Inspector of Police along with 1 Head Constable, 1 Women Constable, Legal Expert, Data Entry Operator and 1 Co-ordinator from the Trans community.

దరఖాస్తుదారుని మాడ్యూల్ I/C అధికారి వద్దకు పంపుతారు. మాడ్యూల్ I/C అధికారి పిటిషన్ పరిశీలించి, సంబంధిత పోలీస్ స్టేషన్ స్టేషన్ హౌస్ ఆఫీసర్ (PS SHO)తో చర్చించి వీలైనంత త్వరగా పరిష్కారం పొందేలా చర్యలు చేపడతారు.

పిటీషన్ యొక్క వివరాలు ఫేజ్-1 మరియు II ప్రొఫార్మాలో నమోదు చేయబడతాయి మరియు సంబంధిత యూనిట్ కు మెమో ద్వారా చేరుతాయి. ఇందులో ముందస్తు తేదీలలో తీసుకున్నటువంటి చర్యలు మరియు నివేదికలు చేర్చి ఫేజ్-III ప్రొఫార్మాగా కార్యాలయానికి పంపబడుతుంది.

What do we do at
Pride Place

Create awareness about the rights of Transgender and LGBQIA+ people and ensure proper implementation of the laws for their safety and protection.
Work towards prevention of crimes, monitor cases of offences against transgender and LGBQIA+ persons.
Create a free, safe and accessible environment for trans and LGBQIA+ persons in public places.
Train police personnel on Trans and LGBQIA+ persons/communities related issues.
Create comprehensive support by offering services from police and others through networking and collaboration.
Establish transgender and LGBQIA+ persons protection cells at state and district levels.
