You should know if the website that you’re visiting for gaining information is reliable or not. There is an easy way to identify the same. You only have to check for a few key points and then you can yourself point out if the website that you’re visiting is reliable or not.
- Look for established institutions. New sites on the internet crop up everyday. You should single out websites that are associated with a trusted institution. These sites usually have been around for a while on the internet and can be relied upon.
- Consider the site's look. Poor design or careless writing can be an indication that it was just made up.
- Check the links on the website. Reputable websites often link to each other. Check if the sites that are linking to your site is well known or not.
- Avoid anonymous authors. Listed authors on articles show reliability of the content. Be wary of content written by anonymous authors. Google listed author's name to verify their credibility.
- Check whether the domain matches the content of the site. For ex. .com is for commercial, .edu for educational, .mil for military, .gov for government and .org for non-profit
- Scam advertisements on the site such as advertisements claiming to give thousands of rupess at the click of a button. Reliable and trustworthy sites should not allow such advertisements to show up.
